Ah, water. We're made of a lot of it and we lose a lot of it awake, asleep, sitting, working. We’ve all heard the drill about how important it is to drink enough of it. But let’s be honest: as busy humans, we often prioritize a million things over eating and drinking right. Between juggling careers, family, social obligations, and trying to get started on that last creative project you already bought supplies for, hydration can take a backseat.
It’s about time we talk about why your skin is getting the short end of the stick and how hydration can make it glow, like better than any skincare routine. There is no serum, toner, moisturizer or buzzy product that replaces drinking enough water. ( Yes, we said the quite part out loud. And are equally guilty of side-lining this key player.)
Why Hydration is Key to Skin Care
Let’s cut to the chase. Your skin is like a sponge. When it’s well-hydrated, it’s plump, dewy, and downright radiant. When it’s not, well, you could hardly blame it for looking a bit like a raisin. Did you know your skin is the largest organ in your body? We don't always think about it like that but it is. And we lose much of our internal water to our external organ. Yes, ladies, our skin deserves better than the occasional splash of water from a toner. We need to drink it up!

The Bad News: What Happens When You Don't Drink Enough Water
You’re exhausted by the end of the day, standing in front of the mirror and wondering why your skin resembles the Sahara Desert. It’s time to confront reality! Lack of hydration can lead to dull skin, increased dryness, and even premature aging. Yes, your skin craves moisture like your best friend craves brunch on a Sunday. Studies show that dehydration can cause skin to lose its elasticity, making us springy gals look a bit less… well, springy.
If that isn’t enough motivation, consider this: dry skin can exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. Your skin barrier needs water to function properly. Forget about that fancy moisturizer you splurged on; without proper hydration, its full potential can never be reached!

The Glow-Up: Benefits of Staying Hydrated
Enhanced Elasticity and Firmness: Hydrated skin retains its bounce. A plump appearance is unbeatable when it comes to looking youthful.
A Natural Glow: Hydration helps maintain a healthy skin tone. It's no replacement for sleep, but it does reduce the feeling of looking like a crumpled paper bag when you wake up.
Improved Complexion: Flush out toxins that can dull your skin. Drinking water clears up the complexion and can really change the texture of your face. If you quit drinking caffine and alcohol on top of that you will be amazed at the radiance.
Less Need for Makeup: Half of the makeup we use is for trying to correct the problems that can be significantly reduced by hydration and sleep. Less make-up, more money, more free time... winning.
Tips for Staying Hydrated
Infuse Your Water: If plain water isn’t calling your name, get creative! Add slices of lemon, cucumber, or even berries for a refreshing twist.
Set Reminders: Use your phone to set hourly reminders to take a sip. Because out of sight, out of mind, am I right?
Drink Before Meals: Having a glass of water before meals not only hydrates you but can help regulate your appetite. It’s a win-win!
Keep Water Accessible: Reusable bottles have become stylish. Thank goodness. The disposable plastic bottled water industry is evil. (Think Water Wars). So keep those pretty reusavle bottles full and clean them regularly! You can end up with bacterial overgrowth and many other unpleasant effects without proper sanitation.
Eat Water-Rich Foods: Did you know that fruits and veggies—like cucumbers, melon, and oranges—have high water content? Incorporate them into your meals for hydration goodness.

Trying to Keep Up? Remember to Enjoy It!
Let’s face it: staying hydrated can sometimes feel like a tedious task, especially with everything else on the to-do list. Remember that once your body is used to being hydrated, it will crave it. It's a self fullfilling prophesy. Drink water when you aren't thirsty and you will develop a thirst.
In an age of self-care, let this not be yet another pressure but rather an engaging opportunity. Hydration doesn’t have to be dull, fizzy waters, fruit infusions, herbs and bitters, probiotic additions and natural sweeteners can turn it into a mocktail fun-fest, even if it doesn't sound fun at first. If you draw on your creative side it can actually feel like a form of artistic expression. And here's a wierd truth, a pretty glass makes everything taste better. You drink with your eyes too.

So, the next time you’re scrolling through your phone, sipping on that delectable latte, consider swapping one cup for a nice glass of water instead, or at very least make sure you follow up with one. Your skin will not only thank you, but you’ll also be on your way to being that radiant goddess with happy kidneys.
Here’s a little tip to close: If you're hitting that instinctual drive for something crunchy or sweet, try downing a glass of water first. Our brains often confuse the sweet craving for the hydration desire. And once you settle the argument it might just save you those extra calories and do wonders for your skin at the same time.
Now go on, raise your glass—filled with fabulous H2O—and toast to healthy, hydrated skin. Cheers to looking fabulous every day!
